How I am Handling COVID 19

How I’m Handling COVID-19

Hey lovelies, its scary times we’re in at the moment with coronavirus disease (also known as COVID-19) sweeping across the world. If you’re feeling a little unsure and anxious, you’re not alone! That’s why I figured I’d share how I’m handling social distancing, staying at home and combatting coronavirus here!

How I’m Handling COVID-19

First thing first:

What Is Coronavirus 19 Disease?

There’s a lot of conflicting news sources and waves of messages on social that can really confuse and overwhelm people at this time. To break it down using the CDC information:

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person.

The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.

COVID-19 is spreading from person to person in parts of the United States and other countries across the board. The risk of infection with COVID-19 is higher for people who are close contacts of someone known to have COVID-19, for example, healthcare workers, or household members.

Other people at higher risk for infection are those who live in or have recently been in an area with ongoing spread of COVID-19.

Coronavirus in the United States

The first case of COVID-19 in the United States was reported on January 21, 2020. The current count of cases of COVID-19 in the United States is available on CDC’s webpage at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html.

How does COVID-19 spread?

The virus that causes COVID-19 probably emerged from an animal source, but is now spreading from person to person.

The virus is thought to spread mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

Do I Have COVID-19?

Here are the symptoms to look out for:

  • Mild to severe respiratory illness and shortness of breath
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose (sometimes)
  • Diarrhea (sometimes)
  • Nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain (sometimes)
  • Loss of sense of taste or smell

How to Protect Yourself From COVID-19:

The CDC has also outlined the best ways to protect yourself from coronavirus. Here they are:

  • Avoid contact with sick people
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Use hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol)
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue
  • Frequently clean and disinfect frequently used objects and surfaces

How I’m Keeping Myself Safe

It’s a lot of troubling information, but the important thing to do is to keep a level head, stay home as much as possible and create new habits to help fortify yourself against the disease. Here’s what I’m doing:

1. Keeping My Immune System Strong

I take my vitamins religiously these days, and also take Airborne to help support my immune system.

I also drink daily Ginger and Turmeric shots (it’s not as bad as it sounds!) These are the ones I take from Solti.

I also use Cold-Eeze nasal swabs after returning from anywhere public, to help remove any bacteria from the nasal lining.

2. Cleaning My Phone

We always forget about our phones, but they’re sometimes the biggest carriers of harmful bacteria out there – and they often touch your fingers and face.

I clean my phone with sanitizing wipes as soon as I get home because I’m never sure about the surfaces I’ve set it on. I also make sure I don’t touch my eyes, nose or lips in public or until I’ve wiped down my phone and washed my hands.

3. My Grandma’s Secret Homeopathic Remedy

This might sound crazy, but hear me out. My grandma swears by onions.

Yes! Onion!

Here’s what to do, and why.

Shred an onion (you can put it in a blender or any device that can help you break the onion down as much as possible.) It should look like a mashed potato.

Put your onion in a jar and inhale it regularly. It kills a lot of bacteria because it’s so high in sulfuric properties. These have powerful antimicrobial properties that battle numerous bacteria.

A bonus: foods high in sulfur also help the body detox from heavy metals (lead, arsenic, and cadmium)

4. Staying Hydrated

Now more than ever it’s important to stay hydrated and keep your body functioning at peak performance. I’m drinking lots of water and tea with turmeric, ginger, and lemon.

Stay Safe Out There

I hope that was helpful! Just remember to keep as calm as possible, do things to distract yourself and remember that this will pass. Stay safe, and share any tips you’ve been using to protect yourself in the comments below!
