Hey, lovelies!
This year, I’m making more of an effort to dish on the behind-the-scenes and my personal life behind this fashion blog. So, we’re diving into all things Valentine’s Day and how I typically celebrate it with my boyfriend of many years.
How I Celebrate Valentine’s Day!
I definitely have a not basic way of celebrating Valentine’s Day, because my boyfriend is DEFINITELY a not-basic boyfriend!
He actually isn’t a huge fan of Valentine’s Day, because he doesn’t believe that there should be one day a year you celebrate how much you truly love someone. For him, it has to be an everyday type of thing.
He never waits for Valentine’s Day or a special occasion to do something romantic or buy me gifts. And when he buys them, believe me – he goes big. He doesn’t go for small or inexpensive tokens – if he gets something, it’s significant or why bother?
That’s just a few of the things I really treasure about him. 💖
Since we’ve been together for over six years now, we’ve done a lot of experimenting with Valentine’s Day. However, his job is really unpredictable and he’s frequently really busy (plus a total spur-of-the-moment type guy) which makes planning something for Valentine’s Day well… just a little complicated.
Plus, we’ve had some downright crazy V-days! One time he even almost got arrested… over hot sauce!
Our Worst Valentines Day
I’m not even kidding. We went to a restaurant that we had been going to for years, and they refused to give him hot sauce. He loves everything spicy, like, can’t eat his steak without peppers. He got so angry he walked outside of the restaurant to cool off, but the staff thought he was leaving and not planning to pay for the meal.
The staff called security, and as I was explaining that yes we were going to pay, a cop had stopped him and was literally about to handcuff him against the wall. I ran out and yelled that this was all because of hot sauce and the cop started LAUGHING.
They packed our food and we went home, but still – talk about a terrible Valentine’s Day.
How We Celebrate Valentines Day Now
After lots of experimenting over the years, including a few more basic dinner dates, we’ve just decided to do something special before or after the day to dodge the hype and really just enjoy each other and our love. On many Vdays, we order in from a nice restaurant or do dinner some other day that works for us.
