Hey lovelies! One of my favorite topics ever are functional fashion pieces – you know, those pieces you can mix and match into so many outfits to create new looks?
My 7 swear-by fashion pieces are: bodysuits, slip dresses, belts, blazers, denim (skirt and jeans!), bold jewelry pieces and strappy heels.
Keep reading for my run-down of why – and some of my favorite picks in each category right now!
Functional Fashion Pieces Every Closet Needs
The Bodysuit
Bodysuits are about as functional as you can get. You can pretty much tuck a good bodysuit into anything – jeans, shorts, skirts, palazzo pants… what have you. You can wear plain t-shirt cut bodysuits during the day, or sexy lace detail bodysuits for a night out.
You’ll always have clean lines and no untucked shirts or slouchy hemlines – it’s my favorite!
I swear by having a handful of white and black bodysuits in my closet at all times.
- Free People Pippa V- Wire Bodysuit in Black
- NBD Kadri Bodysuit in Black
- MAJORELLE Florence Bodysuit in White
- Free People Keep it Sleek Bodysuit in White
The Slip Dress
Slip dresses are always classy (and a little bit sassy!). They’re so functional because you can dress them up or down, add accessories like belts and blazers, and even wear them with sneakers!
- Nili Lotan Junie Dress in Khaki
- DANNIJO Mini Slip Dress in Moonstone
The Belt
Not only are belts crucial to helping define your waist and emphasize your curves (plus, keep your pants up), they’re a great way to add some bling.
I always keep a diverse collection of belts in mostly neutral colors. If you’re wondering what kind of belts to get, I recommend having at least one full statement belt, a more casual option, and neutral-toned belts with just a little bling.
- Lovers + Friends Rhonda Belt
- B-Low the Belt Joan Belt
- GRLFRND Jerry Belt
- B-Low the Belt Clara Belt
The Blazer
A blazer is a necessary part of any wardrobe to offer some coverage while keeping it chic.
Blazers don’t always have to mean office wear – they’re simply a more tailored, fashionable option to a chunky sweater or bulky jacket when it’s a little chilly.
The Denim
I love denim. Jeans are my favorite things to dress up (or dress down). And if it’s summer, you can bet I’ll be wearing denim skirts!
These are some of my favorite pieces (linked below). The fit is unparalleled, and they make all your curves look great!
- AGOLDE Nico High-Rise Slim
- GRLFRND Nella Midi Denim Skirt
- GRLFRND Natalie Mini Denim Skirt
The Bold Jewelry
Bold statement necklaces and jewels and rich gold tones are the hottest trend in Spring/ Summer 2020. It automatically adds class and style to your look – not to mention bold statement pieces are pretty eye-catching!
I’ve always worn lots of gold and layered my necklaces. In fact, people used to tell me it was too much – but now it’s one of the biggest trends in fashion. Guess I was just ahead of my time. 😉

- AUREUM Mia Large Curb Chain Necklace
- joolz by Martha Calvo Rolling in Chain Bracelet
The Strappy Heel
Strappy heels are the most versatile of shoes.
Depending on the style you choose, you can have a fabulous pump for going out, or a relaxed, sandal style for daytime wear.
Here are some of my favorites, with a variety of heel widths and heights to keep in my closet.

- RAYE Gilda Heel
